I enjoyed presenting at The Language Show in London this weekend. I would like to say thank you to everyone that came along. As promised, I am uploading my article on Learner-friendly corpora here:

    Hi Jamie,

Really enjoyed your session at the Language Show. Both your websites are brilliant resources and I’ve been directing teachers to them for quite a while now.

Before we had corpora, the bible of many teachers was Thomson and Martinet. All of the example sentences were made up, probably over a stiff gin, and offer a wonderful corpus.
    Some examples:
Bring a knife to class tomorrow.
    One shotgun is no good.
The brick hit John in the face.
I rather like the smell of petrol.
    He prefers drinking to dancing.
I poured the beer into a tankard.
He expects me to be ready when he comes, but I rarely am.
Although he was drunk he insisted on driving.
He doesn’t snore as loudly as you do.
Small bananas are often better than big ones.

You might like to identify the target structure!
